The B Side

Whilst I was at university I met Shirl Block and Nelson

And together we created Mellow Yellow

Which was sometimes known as Yellow M

It was a punkish group very much on the tails of the genre

And to out great surprise we became rather popular

Possibly it was down to Shirl wearing a red swastika armband

Whilst she was performing semi topless on stage

It was good whilst it lasted but we all knew that it would fade

Which it did when Block returned to the United States

We faded into a part obscurity

Shirl became a teacher at a school in Rome

And I became an edgy journalist with a trendy magazine

My KKK were much admired and commented on

That was many years ago and we are now enjoying our new lives

I was reminded of our musical past when the black and white video

Which we created for the B Side of Sporting Hero

Was shown on the Retro Channel a few days ago

It featured Shirl and I shooting up in a squalid squat

We were both wearing black underwear

My underpants were incredibly gross and repulsive

Shirl looked even more worn

Rather like a victim of a death camp

And that is where the song worked

As I mixed her operatically trained voice

With the animal growls of Block and myself

Danny G made the video which was a 4 austere

I liked how it ended it still works very well

There is a knock at the door and Shirl answers it

Our dealer Nelson hands her a polythene bag

He looks down and it suggested

That he is lusting after her partially covered arse

But he is not as he lifts her needle marked arm

And gently shakes his bulldog head

The simplicity of this image screams at you

Even after all this time
