What is your favourite poem Joe 

The Soldier by Rupert Brooke 

Read it to me 

Only if you promise to get better Sephine  

Why do you like this poem 

Because it portrays an England 

That no longer exists 

An England long since betrayed by traitors 

Whose bones are now just dust 

Whilst these creatures 

Still walk the streets

It is a patriotic poem 

From an era that we never knew

Another country 

Very much 

I often wonder had Rupert survived the war 

Would his poetry have been similar

To the raw poetry of Wilfred Owen  

I think that it would have become harsher 

Rupert was a very underrated poet 

A golden boy

But he was far more than that 

And perhaps that is why

The Soldier is my favourite poem
