Kit Marlowe’s tower stands proud

Opposite a mish-mash of banality

I am in Canterbury today

A great deal remains

But a great deal has been replaced

Yet it is not the buildings or the shops

But the people who I am recording

They are so very different from when I was young

Daddy’s 1986 movie shows this clearly

In 2025 a decay is apparent due to corruption

Those from other shores pollute our streets

Beggars and other wasters haunt the doorways

The city was still bruised in 1986 due to the war

But it was not slowly decaying as it is today

And believe it or not Canterbury is lucky

As there are many cities and towns that are almost dead

Due to the spread of malignancies unchecked

They are the real traitors

It begs the question

Did we really win the war


You have used a harsh pen Joe

But I totally agree with you

I have watched Daddy’s movies

Time and many times after

The reason for the decay screams loudly

Whether the Canterbury tourist people

Will like it is another question

As you are very honest in a dishonest world

I am proud to have ewe as a brother

And as you say a charity has benefited
