I have always considered myself lucky

As I have spent some time in Finland

It seems such a clean sensible country

I share saunas with my friends

Swim and enjoy the fresh countryside

As part of my profession I have travelled widely

But Finland is my favourite country by far

I live with Valerie a Finnish teacher in Bath

We have the national flag

Of the blue lakes and white snows

Draped across our unused stone fireplace

Our cat is named Topelius after the poet

Bath is a beautiful and friendly spa city

With a swimming pool in the clouds

But we both miss Finland very much

And given the opportunity would return
