Marble Sands

Thank you Agatha

I think that I might kiss you

Are you the artist

I suppose that I am this artist

How successful are you

Looking at your house

You must have enjoyed great success

I have never sold a painting

Do you own all of this

Yes every brick every flower

I even own the marble sands

Use the beach at your pleasure

Did you receive it from your family

Receive what

All of this and your beautiful beach

I have no family

Only the blackbirds

Blackbirds

Yes you can see them in the trees

Why do you not invite them in

They are very shy birds

Unlike the swifts and swallows

They are very arrogant birds

Why is that

I cannot be sure

Travel

Travel breeds a sense of maturity

I used to live near a church

Although it is no longer a church

It is now redundant

Nobody loves God anymore

Which is very sad

But the church was used until recently

As an indoor market

Selling everything trendy and chic

You said until recently

Yes

Why did it close

It did not actually close

It was closed

By whom

An eighteenth century memorial fell

Happily the church was empty

Otherwise somebody might have died

Why did it fall after all those years

There was an earthquake

An earthquake in your home town

Yes

We do not get earthquakes in this area

There is a history of them

As we sit on a tectonic plate

One particular tremor

Wrecked a sister church

Over eight hundred years ago

Were many people killed

Nothing was recorded

It you do not paint

Why are you called the artist

Because I work within my eye

I describe these paintings in great detail

They are very popular

People hang them on their walls

But they are not physical Jack

How can people hang

Something that only you can see

May I kiss you Agatha

I will give you my beach

As you enjoy the marble sand

What about the blackbirds

They will be happy for you

As they give beaches away

On a frequent basis

You have tempted me

I will accept your beach

In exchange for a kiss

But I would like you

To paint me on the beach

Using only the colour blue

I will close my eyes Agatha

As I have never painted

In total darkness before
