The heat has been insufferable lately

One can cut the air with a sharp knife

Like so many in our little avenue

We have spent many hours in the pool

I do not think that I have ever been

Quite so tanned during an English Summer


That is why your lovely gift was so welcome

Within minutes the skies changed colour

And all kinds of Hell was released upon us

But however welcome this interlude will not last

As it has been widely reported that this heat

Will again return and smother the country
