The Dover Poems

Dover Companion

In my dream I was carrying you on my back around the streets of Dover

With only your golden hair exposed

As I walked I was describing what I saw

But you were asleep and did not answer me

On a couple of occasions I stumbled as the pavements were uneven

I felt you grip my shoulders and then relax as my balance returned

Later as the day matured you awoke and requested refreshment

Which we shared at a beachside café

Whilst watching the shadow swimmers dive from the last jetty in England

Caron in Dover

The day was bright and the ferries red white and blue

Shone as they crossed the summer sea

I could smell your perfume

Which hung majestically in the warm air
