Our colony was widely known in the village
As the Les Rouges de Doha as it was populated
By artists sculptors models and many other creatives
Although ours was a very free group it had order
It was a pale cooperative yet we religiously shared our profits
After being ignored for many years we suddenly became chic
And with chic came a degree of personal wealth
This coincided with the closure of the nearby container port
Which greatly depressed the local economy
Changing the mood of the town almost overnight
We were no longer really accepted
A fact that was further exasperated
When some of our wealthier artists
Purchased empty and abandoned properties
And turned then into their southern retreats
