My mother was in Germany

After the war

Helping to clear up the mess

But it was not all hard work

As she did enjoy leisure time

This was occasionally recorded

I have a photograph in my possession

Which shows my mother and friends

Sunbathing and swimming near a river

It is a haunting photograph

As just yards from their recreation

Were the recent graves of three German soldiers

Their useless helmets still hung innocently

From the temporary wooden crosses
