Sense of Impact

If you know you know

If you don’t know

Then you don’t know

Memories I have always captured memories

But one stands out

Which happened when I was seventeen

It is a very simple memory

I was standing on the open platform of a bus

When the vehicle had to apply its brakes suddenly

I was carrying a bottle of milk

Which slipped from my grasp

And fell into the road

It shattered on impact

Creating something of a mess

Strangely it was thought that I had fallen

And people ran to my aid

I was obviously unhurt

And remember thinking

How lucky I had been to avoid an accident

And thankful that I had not dropped the sliced loaf

Which had been purchased earlier along with the milk
