29th September 1964

My father was a barman at the Kitty Kat Club

Which was within touching distance of Piccadilly Circus

This long forgotten club was frequented by gangsters

Not the loud names but those who drifted just below the surface

One of these gangsters was named Tom D Adams

Who was known for his cruel and violent temper

His girlfriend was a dancer named Viola Gresham

Both came from the same area in North London

My father clearly remembers the events of that evening

It was quiet with only a few regulars in the club

Tom D Adams was sitting at a table near the door

He was watching his girlfriend chat to an American boy

It was obvious that Adams was getting more and more jealous

As the American was flirting heavily with Viola

It was not long before they started dancing together

My father sensed that trouble was about to break out

He was not disappointed as a fight soon erupted

The American boy was punched in the face and fell against the bar

And then it all changed in an instant as a single shot rang out

Adams was dead even before he fell into Viola’s vacant chair

He had been shot between the eyes by his girlfriend

Who immediately left the club hand in hand with the boy

They were last seen walking down Poland Street before vanishing forever
