I had been travelling for nearly six hours
And was aching for a coffee and a hot pastry
My train would stop at Station Three
For thirty minutes whilst the crews were changed
So I stretched my legs on the busy platform
The wind unlike the south was very cold
I soon returned to the train
It was then then that I noticed a girl
Wandering and looking into the carriage windows
As if she was looking for someone special
She was certainly not dressed for the weather
Wearing only a thin track suit top and scruffy jeans
When she reached my window she stopped
Bowing discreetly and then held up a copy of my latest book
The train started to move but the girl stayed still
I said that I would sign her book when I next visited her town
She smiled and blew a shy kiss and watched my train depart
