feint

On the 3rd of June 1976 a prominent but unnamed politician

Was found dead in a dingy hotel room in Gdansk

The cause of death was an ice pick

That had penetrated his left eye

A known homosexual he was last seen

In the company of slight dark haired youth

Initially the killing was hushed up as the deceased

Had close ties with other Warsaw Pact countries

And a network of other homosexuals was suspected

On the 5th of June 1976 a Russian businessman

Was stabbed to death in an alley

Not far from a London underground station

The assassin was never traced

As no description was reported

Even though Bond Street was thronged with people

On the day of the mysterious and brutal killing

The authorities in both Poland and England

Suspected that both assassinations were connected

As the murdered Russian businessman had had dealings

With the unnamed Polish politician found dead in Gdansk

A number of dissidents were rounded up and questioned

But it was obvious that there were no connections

And for this reason both cases soon became cold

On a wet and windy day late in October 1976

Stephen Smith and Vera Kowalewska

Were married at St Paul’s Roman Catholic Church in Dover

Where they had set up home since leaving Poland

Both had become teachers in the years since they met

They honeymooned in the Scottish Highlands

And it was during this happy time

That they learned that a wanted member

Of the Waffen-SS was living under an assumed name

In the town that they called their home

Klaus Muller had been connected with various atrocities

Including the murder of at least ten Ethnic Poles

And it was likely that Stephens late uncle

Had been one of his many victims
