Although the attack on a defenceless primary school teacher
Shocked the town of Dover to its core the incident soon faded from its collected memory
Vera Smith had made a full recovery and was now teaching at her school again
Her attacker a John Phillip Masters who found dead at the crime scene was confirmed to have died by his own hand
And then it ended and to many in the town rather too quickly
Were some of the facts being hidden
Questions were being asked mostly by over excited reporters
And then of the 1st of September exactly four months to the day of the original incident
A mans body was washed ashore in the Folkestone Warren area between the two towns
He had been shot in the back of the head and his throat had been cut post-mortem
The victim was soon identified as Michel Farmer an artist who had lived quietly in Dymchurch since the early sixties
He was well known in the locality
Often exhibiting in a number of Kent towns
And then came the bombshell that blew the whole investigation wide open
As Michael Farmer was soon found to be a former member of the SS who had been linked with a number of massacres of Jews during the Second World War
His real name was Udo Becker and he had vanished during the later stages of the conflict and was presumed dead
Although he was still hunted by a number of agencies connected with Israel
This alerted the right people in higher places and the investigation was taken over
A veil of secrecy was thrown over proceedings
And within the year a connection between Udo Becker and Klaus Becker was established
As the had both been members of a clandestine organisation named West Sweden which had been active in hiding ex- Nazi’s all over the world but especially in South America
It had appeared to have faded after the capture and subsequent execution of Adolf Eichmann in 1962
Because of this Vera Smith a quiet mild mannered school teacher from Dover was re-interviewed along with her husband Stephen
It was during this time that Vera and Stephen were both found to have Polish roots
The contents of these interviews were never released
to be continued
