Although it has long closed
There used to be an RAF base
On the edge of my village
Its actual name was RAF Eddington
But all knew it as RAF Pink Rose
On account of the number of rose bushes
That could be found around the base
And then mysteriously early in the war
All these beautiful bushes were uprooted
This caused a great deal of anger locally
Until it was explained that these beautiful roses
Could be seen very clearly from the air
And were of assistance to enemy bombers
