She was a legendary martyr

And is still one of the most revered

Of all medieval saints

A learned princess

Who converted to Christianity

And was executed for her faith

It is a beautiful church

There is a sense of peace here

How did you know about it

Because I come from Bath

St Catherine is near Bath

I have known it from a young age

Bath is a million miles away

From where we are today

But there is another reason for our visit

As hidden away is the story of Maria Caesar

A Spanish actress who died very young

What happened to her

She drowned whilst swimming

The tragedy is that Maria

Had always hated the sea

She was born in Zaragoza

And until she made the movie Paz

Had not really had occasion

To visit the coast

This movie which was very popular

Changed the way she looked at the sea

And she purchased a villa

With extensive sea views

The rest is history

As she drowned whilst swimming

About a year later

She died on a calm day in calm waters

There was no reason for her to drown

Her death is still a mystery

She rests here and is often visited

Her fans bring red carnations

As these were her favourite flowers
