Conversations à Strasbourg

The dead had died in vain
The peace was more bitter
Than the war

I like your tee shirt Miriam
it is such a lovely shade of blue

The quote is from a book by Henry Williamson

I found a copy in a bookshop earlier today

It has a memorable cover

I love the use of different shades of red

Have you read it

Not yet

There is a passage near the end of the novel
Where one of the characters
Declares her love for the writer
But he prefers her friend
And climbs a mountain to find her
The other girl who is devoted
Dies in the snow
Whilst following him
She is her own victim

How do you know that

I read the book when I was last in this city

You know me better than I know myself

You purchased the book for its cover

It is strange how old fashioned this novel seems today

If you study the people passing this cafe

How many of them would die for love

They are all engrossed in their own lives

Comfortable I hope with their partners

Without any thoughts of fate

If you look at the couple over there

Which couple

The ones under the pink parasol

She is wearing a beautiful summer dress

I greatly admire her style

He is lightly running his finger

Up and down her back

Why is he doing that

It is an invisible question

With an obvious answer

Do you think she would die for him

They look to be in love

Perhaps they are
