I was delayed by a burst water main

In my dream about a football match

The game was due to kick off in five

All the match programmes had been sold

The game against town was being televised

After gaining entry I stood on the nearside terrace

Stanley lost a goal after just three minutes

I faulted the keeper but it had come through a crowd

Stanley then had a couple of chances but nothing concrete

At half time I was given a match programme by a friend

Which was interesting as I learned that the town centre half

Had once been a blue clown in a travelling circus

And gave out joke books instead of autographs

Stanley equalised late in the game from the penalty spot

They had not played well but were good for a valuable point

I discussed the game with my father as we drove south

Along the western road towards towards our small hotel
