I could not remember much about the accident
As the impact had rendered me unconscious
The pilot had died yet Paz and I had survived
Here on this small forgotten island
I knew that I would recover from my injuries
And that Paz was more or less undamaged
It was only on the third day that I realised
That my beautiful android was becoming sluggish
Her speech was slurred and her eyes had lost their sparkle
Within days without recharging she would fail completely
And would be as useless as the shattered helicopter
The next few nights were torturous as she slowly faded
Occasionally she sang a song or wept bitterly
As she feared the oblivion that she could not understand
The end when it came was silent as she became rigid
And to my surprise began to grow pale in the sun
I buried her next to the pilot under the low beach palms
And then began my long walk towards civilisation
