The Martin Mill Haunting

My father once owned

The Lantern Inn at Martin

When I was of age

I went to school in Dover

Which necessitated

Joining the train at Martin Mill

I grew very used to my local station

Not knowing that it was haunted

By eight ghosts across two platforms

The story if it is to be believed

Is that the charabanc which transported

Passengers to the beach at Kingsdown

Crashed into farm tractor and overturned

Killing eight of its sixteen passengers

All who has been day trippers from London

It is said that these souls still haunt the platforms

Waiting for the train that will take them home

This never arrives leaving them all in oblivion

During all my years of attending my school

I never saw any of these alleged ghosts

But was aware of the deep flickering lights

In the subway especially on dark winter evenings
