The Outrage of My Blood

I did not want to be here

But I was ordered

To serve my dying country

Either that or be shot

By my own side

I am now sitting wounded

By a dying shattered hedge

Which will probably outlive me

Unless I receive immediate attention

Which seems increasingly unlikely

As the night is slowly drawing in

I was always going to bleed

Whether from friendly rifles turned sour

Or from the rapid screaming shells

Fired blindly in my general direction

The mud is I believe drinking my blood

Or so it seems as I slowly die

Just another soldier who refused war

Nobody will share my anonymous death

Which if it is going to happen will amuse me

As I never wanted to fight

Against my beloved brothers

From the land behind the clouds
