I used to work at a cinema
In Notting Hill Gate
And now occasionally
Watch a new webcam
Situated near the tube station
My memories of the cinema
Still fill me with happiness
Life was so easy then
Then things changed
As things tend to do
If this webcam
Is to be believed
Then my Notting Hill
Has changed for the worst
It is busier and now
Much more threatening
If is unlikely that I will return
My cinema has closed
And I have lost contact
With my passing friends
It is all very sad
But something
That has remained constant
Is the sound
Of my washing machine
Working silently
After six in the morning
I programme it that way
As I like to wake up
To its gentle and soothing hum
Especially during
The darker months
This has not changed
Since my days
At number forty six
And like then
I still find it comforting
