{"id":10006,"date":"2022-02-21T19:47:55","date_gmt":"2022-02-21T19:47:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stuartpoetry.art\/?p=10006"},"modified":"2022-02-21T19:47:55","modified_gmt":"2022-02-21T19:47:55","slug":"red-red-robin-and-other-poems","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/2022\/02\/21\/red-red-robin-and-other-poems\/","title":{"rendered":"Red Red Robin and Other Poems"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Red Red Robin<\/b><\/p>\n<p>You are the master of your territories<\/p>\n<p>And greet me warmly when I visit your home<\/p>\n<p>We wear our bloodied aprons with pride<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Jenny Wren<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Tiny Jemmy Wren<\/p>\n<p>You shelter meekly<\/p>\n<p>Against the winter winds<\/p>\n<p>I offer you my home<\/p>\n<p>But you prefer the frozen fields<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Kite<\/b><\/p>\n<p>You glide above the winter fields<\/p>\n<p>Oblivious to the bright chilled air<\/p>\n<p>It is said that many creatures<\/p>\n<p>Enjoy your majestic theatre<\/p>\n<p>From their places of silent retreat<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Pigeons<\/b><\/p>\n<p>You are called vermin by some<\/p>\n<p>Rats with wings<\/p>\n<p>An unkindness I think<\/p>\n<p>For your hospitality<\/p>\n<p>Shades us all<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Crow<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Master Bird<\/p>\n<p>Your kingdoms stretch far<\/p>\n<p>But your reign is unstable<\/p>\n<p>As you are familiar<\/p>\n<p>With your many subjects<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Buzzard<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Great Buzzard<\/p>\n<p>Beneath this stone<\/p>\n<p>Resurrect yourself<\/p>\n<p>We have an understanding<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Magpie<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The contours of the waves<\/p>\n<p>Are broken by shafts of brilliant sunlight<\/p>\n<p>A solitary magpie awaits the night<\/p>\n<p>It will not sleep as it is counting the stars<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>The Cold Service of all the Nights<\/b><\/p>\n<p>I did not witness your birth<\/p>\n<p>Nor will I see your demise<\/p>\n<p>I accept this<\/p>\n<p>You have watched me for so many years<\/p>\n<p>Without emotion<\/p>\n<p>But our friendship endures this comedy<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Cold Moon\/White Queen<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Let me caress your breast White Queen<\/p>\n<p>Let me touch your broken heart<\/p>\n<p>So that we may grieve together<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Cold Moon<\/b><\/p>\n<p>You have many masks<\/p>\n<p>Each thinner than the last<\/p>\n<p>I have removed the summer varnish from your portraits<\/p>\n<p>And left them alone in the frost fields<\/p>\n<p>Where they will be far away from your obstructions<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>The Cat with the Green Head<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The cat with the green head<\/p>\n<p>Does not celebrate Christmas<\/p>\n<p>For it is illiterate<\/p>\n<p>And stares at ducks<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>threehundredandfortysixdays<\/b><\/p>\n<p>irestedforthreehundredandforty<wbr \/>sixdays<\/p>\n<p>andonthethreehundredandfortyse<wbr \/>venthitravelled<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>My Smiling Confederates<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Let us celebrate this season with joy<\/p>\n<p>And ignore the hardships of the needy<\/p>\n<p>For the mire of their despondency<\/p>\n<p>Does not even stain our boots<\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Red Red Robin You are the master of your territories And greet me warmly when I visit your home We wear our bloodied aprons with pride &nbsp;
