{"id":10272,"date":"2022-03-27T12:41:23","date_gmt":"2022-03-27T11:41:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stuartpoetry.art\/?p=10272"},"modified":"2022-03-27T14:49:32","modified_gmt":"2022-03-27T13:49:32","slug":"margate-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/2022\/03\/27\/margate-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Margate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I read somewhere that cities such as Bath and Oxford borrow from the light from the sun in the morning and returns it with a great gratitude as the evening draws in<\/p>\n<p>But what of Margate<\/p>\n<p>It is a town of many buildings some quite lovely but none can be called outstanding as is the case in the former cities<\/p>\n<p>Margate has a highly decorated clock raised in Victorian times which is at the point of two separating roads<\/p>\n<p>It not a town of great universities or of carefree students in pretty frocks and bright cravats<\/p>\n<p>I own a Folkestone Burgundy but do not wear it on the streets of Margate<\/p>\n<p>As there is something wrong so very wrong about cravats in these days of casual attire<\/p>\n<p>The beach is I am told of imported sand which stretches deep from the sea shelter to the white terrace<\/p>\n<p>An art gallery modern in design stands where the artist used to lodge and how fresh it looks<\/p>\n<p>The town although improving still has an air of neglect of past splendours totally unloved<\/p>\n<p>No longer do the boarding houses and bed and breakfasts hold majesty<\/p>\n<p>They have been replaced by scruffy people who live in scruffy flats offensive to the eye<\/p>\n<p>But not all is lost as cafes small and chic are springing up in the old town<\/p>\n<p>Along with pastel bookshops in shady squares<\/p>\n<p>That are open to curious architectures<\/p>\n<p>Almost hidden at the height of trees<\/p>\n<p>I am in the half light and reading a book of haiku<\/p>\n<p>On a memorial bench much weathered<\/p>\n<p><em>The Moon and the Pines\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>How beautiful and simple this poetry is<\/p>\n<p>God loves Margate and is rumoured to live there in a small flat above a record shop<\/p>\n<p>He has gifted this coastal town a light that is the equal of Venice<\/p>\n<p>The artist Turner noted this as have many others including writers and poets<\/p>\n<p>From the first ray of the day to the last evening ray this light is simply stunning<\/p>\n<p>High White<\/p>\n<p>Wide Blue<\/p>\n<p>Rich Crimsons<\/p>\n<p>Cool Green<\/p>\n<p>Savage Golds<\/p>\n<p>All the colours of heaven are present<\/p>\n<p>In the skies above Margate<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I read somewhere that cities such as Bath and Oxford borrow from the light from the sun in the morning and returns it with a great gratitude as the evening draws in But what of Margate It is a town of many buildings some quite lovely but none can be called outstanding as is the [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-10272","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/10272","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=10272"}],"version-history":[{"count":5,"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/10272\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":10277,"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/10272\/revisions\/10277"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=10272"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=10272"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=10272"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
