I am an honest man<\/p>\n
Who often sits in canvas chairs<\/p>\n
On colourful mornings<\/p>\n
Considering running rhythms<\/p>\n
Which are often called<\/p>\n
Common English rhythms<\/p>\n
Which are measured by feet<\/p>\n
Either two or three syllables<\/p>\n
No now I am boring you<\/p>\n
I apologise for that<\/p>\n
Poets can be such boring people<\/p>\n
As they can see both the beauty<\/p>\n
And the ugliness in everything<\/p>\n
They are the true writers<\/p>\n
And lead difficult lives<\/p>\n
As they live by rules<\/p>\n
That are no longer present<\/p>\n
Apart from my own chair<\/p>\n
I have five other chairs<\/p>\n
Dotted around this huge garden<\/p>\n
Each of these chairs<\/p>\n
Exhibits a different colour<\/p>\n
But they all have connections<\/p>\n
Which are quite believable<\/p>\n
I have a red chair and an orange chair<\/p>\n
So therefore I have to have a yellow chair<\/p>\n
I have a black canvas chair<\/p>\n
So obviously I have a white chair<\/p>\n
I am sitting in a grey chair<\/p>\n
Jane is asleep on her bed<\/p>\n
She is quite naked<\/p>\n
I can see her clearly<\/p>\n
Through the open veranda doors<\/p>\n
She has her bottom facing me<\/p>\n
And a hint of her maiden hair<\/p>\n
Can just be seen if I lean forward<\/p>\n
The whole tableau is intensely erotic<\/p>\n
Although she is the only figure<\/p>\n
Motionless in the early sun<\/p>\n
I wish I could express this in words<\/p>\n
Yet I am not a poet<\/p>\n
But an honest man<\/p>\n
Who likes sitting in canvas chairs<\/p>\n
Just after the dawn<\/p>\n
Considering poetry<\/p>\n
And exploring the distant nudity<\/p>\n
Of his partner of many years<\/p>\n
