{"id":11729,"date":"2022-08-25T11:51:45","date_gmt":"2022-08-25T10:51:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stuartpoetry.art\/?p=11729"},"modified":"2022-08-25T12:04:43","modified_gmt":"2022-08-25T11:04:43","slug":"the-dereliction-of-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/2022\/08\/25\/the-dereliction-of-history\/","title":{"rendered":"The Dereliction of History"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>During my wanderings I sometimes step into history when visiting abandoned buildings<\/p>\n<p>Some have been empty for many years whereas others have only been neglected for a short time<\/p>\n<p>I found the skeleton of a cat in a house deep within a Hampshire village opposite a busy inn<\/p>\n<p>It had been wrapped in a blanket as the owner could not bear to be parted from her much loved friend<\/p>\n<p>This dilapidated house smelt of death which was strange as it was so near the beating heart of the community<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When I was in Australia a few years ago I visited an old mining settlement and explored the decaying shacks<\/p>\n<p>It was almost as if the residents had stepped out for a moment as coffee pots and china cups lay waiting for their return<\/p>\n<p>Newspapers and magazines dating back over sixty years lay abandoned on the once splendid and cherished rugs<\/p>\n<p>I invaded the bedrooms of these ghosts and found photographs in fine frames staring into vacancy of time<\/p>\n<p>The mine closed and the impoverished miners moved out leaving their lives for future generations to explore<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>One of my favourite abandoned houses is called Geraldine in the Woods by the locals who pass its austere remains<\/p>\n<p>On enquiry I was told that for many years it was supposed that a ghost haunted a nearby copse during the dark winter months<\/p>\n<p>A woman of only twenty-nine years had hung herself on learning that her husband had died during the last war<\/p>\n<p>They had only lived in this house for five years and were quite blissfully happy although without issue<\/p>\n<p>Since that tragic day it had remained empty and was slowly retreating into a history of its own making<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>to be continued<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>During my wanderings I sometimes step into history when visiting abandoned buildings Some have been empty for many years whereas others have only been neglected for a short time I found the skeleton of a cat in a house deep within a Hampshire village opposite a busy inn It had been wrapped in a blanket [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-11729","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/11729","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=11729"}],"version-history":[{"count":5,"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/11729\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":11734,"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/11729\/revisions\/11734"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=11729"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=11729"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=11729"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
