On the 30th<\/sup> of September 2014 the author purchased a North Western Gas savings box dating from the 1950\/60s<\/p>\n

The box is made of strengthened steel and is covered in red leather and carries in relief the legend HIGH SPEED GAS as well as the representation on a gas flame<\/p>\n

The box is locked and it has no key<\/p>\n

There is an aperture to the rear of the box where light can enter<\/p>\n

The aperture can also be used for the submission of coins<\/p>\n

The author will not use the box for saving up for his gas charges<\/p>\n

He lives in a fully electric house<\/p>\n

There is no gas facility<\/p>\n

There has never been a gas based facility<\/p>\n

The box reminds him of the play<\/p>\n

He imagines the characters<\/p>\n

Joseph Garcin <\/i><\/p>\n

Ines Serrano <\/i><\/p>\n

Estelle Rigault \u00a0\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n

Locked into a room for eternity<\/p>\n

The author decides to adopt the character of the valet<\/p>\n

He cuts out three paper dolls<\/p>\n

And names them after the characters<\/p>\n

There is no need to change their names<\/p>\n

One by one<\/p>\n

The three characters enter the box<\/p>\n

Joseph goes in first<\/p>\n

Estelle follows him<\/p>\n

And Ines brings up the tail<\/p>\n

Joseph was wearing a dark suit<\/p>\n

Both Estelle and Ines were wearing dresses<\/p>\n

Similar in design but different in colour<\/p>\n

Their entry took place at 17.00 on the 1st<\/sup> of October 2014<\/p>\n

Before they leave the author photographs them<\/p>\n

This is the only record of their existence<\/p>\n

They will remain in the box until the author decides to release them<\/p>\n

The author does not have a key<\/p>\n

He has no idea where he might find a key<\/p>\n

This does not trouble him<\/p>\n

The inhabitants of the box<\/p>\n

Will be fed twice a day<\/p>\n

At six in the morning<\/p>\n

And six in the evening<\/p>\n

Every twenty-eight days<\/p>\n

A parcel will be delivered<\/p>\n

This will be to the advantage of the inhabitants<\/p>\n

The author is aware of this but does not care<\/p>\n

He will not have any contact with the inhabitants<\/p>\n

For four hundred and ninety-six days<\/p>\n

Until the 9th<\/sup> of February 2016<\/p>\n

The box is comfortable<\/p>\n

With both sanitary and medical facilities available<\/p>\n

There is no privacy in the box<\/p>\n

Joseph, Estelle and Ines<\/p>\n

Will have no secrets from each other<\/p>\n

In time they will share each other\u2019s dreams<\/p>\n

There is no contact with the outside world<\/p>\n

They are totally unaware of this internet connection<\/p>\n

Three times a day for two hours a day<\/p>\n

Music will be played to the inhabitants of the box<\/p>\n

The music will not differ and will follow the same pattern<\/p>\n

Every six days the inhabitants will be asked to watch a video<\/p>\n

A video of flowers<\/p>\n

This video will not differ neither will the flowers<\/p>\n

This is their entertainment<\/p>\n

The author who is now the valet<\/p>\n

Is not cruel<\/p>\n

In four hundred and ninety-six days\u2019 time<\/p>\n

He will update this poem<\/p>\n

All poems should be updated<\/p>\n

Poetry should never be static<\/p>\n
