With reference to your invitation <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It would be a pleasure to visit you in the Fall<\/p>\n\n\n\n
How strange it was to have spotted you <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Walking across that bridge <\/p>\n\n\n\n
With trains passing above you <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And vehicles to your side <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I loved your dress so colourful and bright <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It really suited you and shone in celebration <\/p>\n\n\n\n
My mother and father have brought me to Venice <\/p>\n\n\n\n
You would not believe how hot it is here <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I am writing this happy letter to you <\/p>\n\n\n\n
With views to the blue lagoon <\/p>\n\n\n\n
You asked me how Venice was built <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the middle of this lagoon and why <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The reason was quite simple <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As the location was chosen for protection <\/p>\n\n\n\n
During those turbulent times <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The way it was built was very clever<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As the city was built using millions of poles <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Oak larch and pine <\/p>\n\n\n\n
These were sourced from neighbouring countries <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And transported to the location by sea <\/p>\n\n\n\n
These poles were then driven into the muddy ground <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Until solid land was reached <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The space between the poles was then filled <\/p>\n\n\n\n
With stones and shards and the similar <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And this was covered with wooden boards <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Which formed a suitable base <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And then these guys constructed their buildings <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The secret was that there was no oxygen <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the the deep layers beneath mud <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Which prevented these foundations from rotting away <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was a wonderful madness as Venice is superb<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A City of Beauty and a City of Genius <\/p>\n\n\n\n
When I see you next I will ask your parents <\/p>\n\n\n\n
If you might accompany us on our next trip <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Venice will make your senses tingle and scream <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I promise you that but you will need a good supply <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Of your cotton summer dresses and your shaded glasses <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As the light is so bright and the air is so warm <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It travels in naked from the sea and hangs in the blue skies<\/p>\n\n\n\n
See you are bringing the poet out in me <\/p>\n\n\n\n
