I was in the Magic City <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was New Years Eve <\/p>\n\n\n\n
My phone battery was low <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because I had been recording <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The beauty of the city <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A storm was due <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The skies were black <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the distance the rugby posts <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Were majestic above the pitch <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The were due to suffer a lightning strike <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Which would destroy them <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I felt for these rugby posts <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The city was an inland city <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a landlocked country <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But it had views to the sea <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I sat on the harbour wall <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And watched as a couple of kids <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As they tried to recover a loudspeaker <\/p>\n\n\n\n
From the sea <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Scott Joplin’s Ragtime <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I loved his music <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As it was echoing around me <\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the kids sold me the loudspeaker <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And for an hour I was Ragtime Bess <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I will ride you to death said Sonia <\/p>\n\n\n\n
That will not happen I told her <\/p>\n\n\n\n
That is not Scott Joplin’s Ragtime <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I began to gave my doubts <\/p>\n\n\n\n
That is the Ragtime of Scott Hayden <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Joplin died of Syphilis <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hayden died of Tubercolosis<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That is how I can tell the difference <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This made me unhappy <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As although I liked the music <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The urchins had lied to me <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I threw the speaker into the sea <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Where it was soon rescued by a tug <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Wonderful World of Shipping <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I could hear the Ragtime <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As the ships passed <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But what of my companions <\/p>\n\n\n\n
They would be worried about me <\/p>\n\n\n\n
So I headed towards the centre of the city <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The storm has broken <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was raining heavily <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But I stayed dry <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As you do not get wet in dreams <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I was in the Georgian part of the city <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The houses boasted large windows <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And everything was quite symmetrical <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I stood in front of the Georgian steps <\/p>\n\n\n\n
That led up to the highest point in the city <\/p>\n\n\n\n
They worried me as I was told that they were symmetrical <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Whereas to the naked eye they were obviously asymmetrical <\/p>\n\n\n\n
My phone rang my friends were coming to get me <\/p>\n\n\n\n
They would meet me at the highest point in the city <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The flower girl told me <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They found me dressed in her tatty clothes <\/p>\n\n\n\n
