In the last couple of days <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jane and I have visited <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Two Castles<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One in Walmer and one in Dover <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dover in all its majesty <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Is perched high above the town <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Whereas Walmer is situated <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Very near the sea <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a semi rural settling <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both are noble castles <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But Dover is the more imposing <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As it seems to touch the sky <\/p>\n\n\n\n
When one visits this castle <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is a vertical experience <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And not for the faint of heart <\/p>\n\n\n\n
You are almost at God’s front door <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today I purchased a new used book <\/p>\n\n\n\n
From the dusty kitchens<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Poems of T.S. Eliot <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I browsed through this book <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Whilst taking tea on the terrace <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was an agreeable way to spend an hour <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Given that whilst the sun was May warm <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The wind was quite cool for its station <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a week or so distant the warmth will arrive <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And this will enhance its already perfect music of the area<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jane will be wearing her —-<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Stan what are writing <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jane will be wearing her cool cotton dress <\/p>\n\n\n\n
My suicide note <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Oh that’s nice <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Shall we call the next few moments a silence <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Let’s do that<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Silence it is a quiet word <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Very suited for its meaning <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I agree <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But there is nothing quiet about this word <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is one of the loudest words in our language <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Silence Screams <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Like a jet engine <\/p>\n\n\n\n
You are losing me Stan <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Please come back <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I was writing about our castle visits <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I enjoyed both but baby objected to the Dover climbs <\/p>\n\n\n\n
They can be seen as challenging to say the least <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But he or she liked the water feature in the centre of the town <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I liked it but did consider it wasted on the local population <\/p>\n\n\n\n
They are trying to regenerate the town <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I agree as the town needs love <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Parts of Dover are rather beautiful especially near the park <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I am not saying it was ugly <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Just tired<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It will always be a transit town a passing point <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is an unusual combination and I cannot think of a town in the UK that shares this <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rather like Marseille which is the gateway to Africa <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dover is the gateway to Europe <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both seem to collect the waifs and strays along with the people who stay for no real reason apart from the fact that they are always in transit<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Is that why you preferred Walmer <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I like the gardens as they were so lovely <\/p>\n\n\n\n
We visited this castle at the right time of the year<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Everything was so new and perfect <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Including the high white light <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was a joy to behold <\/p>\n\n\n\n
God lives in Walmer <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Quite possibly <\/p>\n\n\n\n
May I read your suicide note Stan <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Be my guest <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As suicide notes go I rather like this one <\/p>\n\n\n\n
