I had always enjoyed the visits of my cousin Susan <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Whose sunny personality brightened up my day <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She was a couple of years older than I was<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And used to share the smallest bedroom with me <\/p>\n\n\n\n
There was no other options as my uncle and aunt <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Took possession of my parents room and my parents <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Well you know how it goes it was the classic domino effect <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Some might have found this a little strange<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cousins sharing a room but they need not have worried <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As we slept in sensible night wear approved by the puritans in the house<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That was until the hot summer of 1976 when the nights were like the days <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As normal we changed in the bathroom and retired on happy terms <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But during that night I became so hot that I abandoned my nightwear <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the morning I would just stay under the covers until I was alone <\/p>\n\n\n\n
That was what was supposed to happen but soon after dawn <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I heard some unusual bird noises coming from the garden which I could not easily identify <\/p>\n\n\n\n
My curiosity became such that I turned around intending to look out of the window <\/p>\n\n\n\n
If I was quiet I reasoned nobody would hear me especially Sue <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I was in for the greatest shock of my life as standing there in front of me <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As naked as the day she was born was my unconcerned cousin <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I tried to speak but my words would not form easily<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was nothing but a dream I was dreaming a wicked dream <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Eventually I came to my senses and asked her what she was doing <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She enquired about the mystery birds and asked me to look at them <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I stood up in all my glory which caused a smile to flicker across her lips <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In all we must have stood there for about five minutes discussing the birds <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And then it happened as her mother quietly entered our room for some reason <\/p>\n\n\n\n
We explained that we were bird watching as they were birds of beautiful song <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And then we both slipped into our respective beds and as soon as Sue’s shocked mother had left the room <\/p>\n\n\n\n
We both began laughing whilst trying not to wake the house <\/p>\n\n\n\n
At breakfast Sue and I acted as if nothing had happened <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nothing had happened as it was quite natural and very innocent <\/p>\n\n\n\n
My father who was a self proclaimed expert on birds identified the culprits <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As Neon Green Parrakeets most likely fugitives from a nearby aviary<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I never shared a room with Susan again as we had both somehow sinned <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Susan and her family now live in Bexhill and we live in Hastings<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Our families see each other from time to time <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A couple of years ago I asked her about that enchanted morning <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As we both cannot now see a Neon Green Parrakeet<\/p>\n\n\n\n
