In 1879 a workman who was engaged in roof repairs <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fell on to the platform below and died instantly <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And soon after a haunting was reported on Platform 8<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This has occurred at irregular intervals since then <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And although exaggerated there are still reports <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Of the lights on the station flickering repetitively for no apparent reason<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Which brings me to my own rather frightening experience<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That occurred on the station shortly before my ninth birthday<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I had been waiting for a delayed train with my grandparents <\/p>\n\n\n\n
When my grandfather announced that he was going to the buffet <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And would I look after my grandmother who was sleepy <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This I did and within minutes she was dozing on the seat <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I thought little of this until I noticed a man standing only yards away <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Staring at the roof and for some reason I thought him odd<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He although I could not reason why seemed to be white shimmering <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was then that I noticed that the station lights were acting in a strange fashion<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As if a switch was being tampered with by a naughty child <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I soon became aware that the shimmering man was no longer on the platform<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And the station lights had returned to normal without cause <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I did not tell my grandparents as I thought that they might think me foolish <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But in the years since I believe that I saw a ghost that evening <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And that the white shimmering and the station lights<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Were somehow connected as if power was being drained from the local grid <\/p>\n\n\n\n
