Sir <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nobody has called me Sir in a long time <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is your name <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seymour <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And yours <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jennifer but people call me Jenny <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I like to read poems to people I meet in the street <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The streets are my home <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am sorry to hear that <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Have been for thirty years <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since Martha died <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then may we share a meal later <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Are you from a church Miss <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am part of a church yes <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But I read poetry to people I meet independently <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I will accept your invitation of the meal <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As I have not really eaten for a couple of days <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just the out of dates from the stores <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I used to eat at the Louis Diner but he is in hospital <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Was he a friend of yours <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yes we were in Nam together <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I watched his brother die <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We kinda bonded <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I watched his back he watched mine <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Louis is a good man but he is very ill <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I try to visit him <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But I cannot afford the fares <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So I pray for him right here in front of the store <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But Miss you said that you wanted to read a poem to me <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I would like to read a poem to you Seymour <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who wrote it that Shakespeare fellow <\/p>\n\n\n\n

No Djuna Barnes <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Never heard of her<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She is not all that well known <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here where the trees tremble with your flight
I sit and braid thin whips to beat you down.
How shall we ever find you who have gone
In little dresses, lisping through the town?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Great men on horses hunt you, and strong boys
Employ their arrows in the shallow air.
But I shall be heard whistling where I follow
Braiding long wisps of grass and stallion\u2019s hair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And in the night when thirty hawks are high
In pendent rhythm, and all the wayside loud;
When they are burning field and bush and hedge,
I\u2019ll steal you like a penny from the crowd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I must say I like it but do not understand it <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You read it so well <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is it your favourite poem <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is one of many poems I love <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seymour you are a good man <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As good as many Miss <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before we eat I am going to give you an envelope <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It contains a number of dollar notes <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why me <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why not <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you like then share it with somebody else <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who is down on their luck <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That is up to you <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether you do there is enough to visit your friend <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And enough to tide you over for a while <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I ask again why me <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because I like to share my happiness that’s all <\/p>\n\n\n\n

God has given me so much <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So very much <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I used to be on the streets like you <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Look at my arm what do you see <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Junkie scars <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was in the gutter and God rescued me <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And I made it my mission to help those <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who are now less fortunate than me <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But enough of that Seymour <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lets eat <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where do you suggest <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well the Catcus Grill is a good place <\/p>\n\n\n\n
