Is the title of a very obscure seventies movie<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Which I have never watched<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But I stole the title<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For a piece of art that I created<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When I thought I was an artist<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And not a poet<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I had the vision but not the dexterity<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Which cannot be said for my poetry<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Where God has gifted me with a precious gift<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In short I took a small square of black velvet<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And drove six drawing pins through the material<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I chose six as it was a perfect number<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But there was another meaning<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That many of you will guess<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And this reminded me of the Academy Awards last night<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All glitz and glamour but of little real substance<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was the usual freak show of actresses<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wearing pretty (and not so pretty) frocks<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That the junkies and those without hope<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the mean streets of America<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Must have financially only dreamt about<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A token black actress won one of the awards<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But a fine Native American actress was ignored<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One can almost write the script<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Some celebrities wore silly badges<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To show that they cared as they sat around their LA pools<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I could only think whether this mattered in the war zones<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Where missiles and all the other pieces of shit were a fact of life<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Somebody sent me a text asking me a question which I had not considered<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What would the the hostages have made of all this glitz and glamour<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If indeed they had watched the ceremony<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As they rotted away in the tunnels in Gaza<\/p>\n\n\n\n
(remember this is an abstract)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I considered my answer and then possibly naively<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Noted that I believe and dearly hoped that the conflict would end soon<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And in the world as it is I would not be surprised<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If one or more of the hostages<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ended up on the AA stage in the next couple of years<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Initially Kevin was not sure of my answer but saw my point<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If there is not hope then only the dust remains<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This said what irritates me is how those with privilege<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Virtue signal to prove their moral correctness on certain issues<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It makes me feel nauseous<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Like many decent people I prefer peace <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But this does not come naturally<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is not a natural process (far from it)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Even an idiot can see that to achieve a peace<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One has to work hard to achieve it<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And ensure that it is strong<\/p>\n\n\n\n
