I was born and raised in North Yorkshire <\/p>\n\n\n\n
My father was a farmer and he farmed an area <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Known as No Ordinary Opera which was essentially a small moor <\/p>\n\n\n\n
When I was nine years old we moved to Australia <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And I remained there until I was thirty<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When I was informed that the place of my birth <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Was up for sale as the previous owner had moved away <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I decided to visit Tell Cottage and No Ordinary Opera <\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the view to purchasing the cottage and the farm <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This I did at auction although I found that only the cottage was for sale <\/p>\n\n\n\n
There was no mention of any adjacent farmland <\/p>\n\n\n\n
On enquiry about No Ordinary Opera I was met with blank faces <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I was told that no farmland of that name had ever existed <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Even though I could remember it clearly as a child <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The cottage although modernised was more or less the same <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But the farmland had vanished completely and in its place<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I found unremarkable grassland with no trace of any of our outbuildings <\/p>\n\n\n\n
No Ordinary Opera had for all intent and purposes vanished into time <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I still own Tell Cottage and rent it out as I live in Western Australia <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But I have never come to terms with the disappearance of No Ordinary Opera <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I sometimes doubt that it ever existed at all <\/p>\n\n\n\n
