{"id":1992,"date":"2015-12-23T12:45:02","date_gmt":"2015-12-23T12:45:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.stuartmillerosborne.co.uk\/?p=1992"},"modified":"2015-12-23T12:45:02","modified_gmt":"2015-12-23T12:45:02","slug":"andersons-last-christmas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/2015\/12\/23\/andersons-last-christmas\/","title":{"rendered":"Anderson\u2019s Last Christmas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As Anderson walked along the kinetic subway<\/p>\n<p>Between Kings Cross and St Pancras<\/p>\n<p>He was admiring the art of the architect<\/p>\n<p>Subways were normally so featureless<\/p>\n<p>Haunted by those with no respect<\/p>\n<p>This was to be his last journey<\/p>\n<p>He knew that he would not return<\/p>\n<p>He stopped and placed both palms<\/p>\n<p>On the shimmering wall<\/p>\n<p><i>Why are you doing that?<\/i><\/p>\n<p>An albino asked<\/p>\n<p><i>This is my last Christmas I fear <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>I am here for my health <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Your health? <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>As you can see I am very pale <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>I come to this subway once a week to gain some colour<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>It does not last long but I feel better <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Then why do we not swop identities <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>You are talking fantasy <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>No in this subway anything is possible <\/i><\/p>\n<p>Anderson pulled his hand away from the wall<\/p>\n<p>In was aquamarine<\/p>\n<p><i>May I touch your face?<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Please do <\/i><\/p>\n<p>The albino began to glow<\/p>\n<p><i>I feel as a chameleon might changing colour at will<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>If I place my other hand on your head then within the hour you will have achieved my self <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>What will happen to you?<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>I am not sure I think I will become a colour field part of this kinetic wall <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Will I inherit your problems?<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>I have no problems <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>I am just spent <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Exhausted <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>This was always going to be my final Christmas <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Before this subway was built there was just soil between the stations <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>But this was where I had been buried <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>A plague victim <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>For centuries there was nothing but darkness <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>And I did not rest <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>I became tired <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>And then this subway was built and colour returned to my life <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>I adored this passage but knew my time was short<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>If I emerged at either end then I would return to my eternal darkness <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>I needed to find someone to share my colour <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>A host?<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>No not a host for if you agree to swop identities then I will cease to exist<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>That would not be fair on you<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>It would be very fair on me as I would become one of the colours that you see passing I would never suffer darkness again <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>I suffer my paleness but I am left alone <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Would you like to share my colour as time is short?<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Will I be the same person?<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Yes you will be exactly as you are now except you will no longer be pale <\/i><\/p>\n<p>The albino placed Anderson\u2019s other hand on his head<\/p>\n<p>Nothing happened for a while<\/p>\n<p>And then there was a tremendous flash of colour<\/p>\n<p>Robert found himself on the subway floor<\/p>\n<p><i>Are you ok?<\/i><\/p>\n<p>A man helped him to his feet<\/p>\n<p><i>Yes I just felt a little faint <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>The colours were too vibrant <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>There is a facility at the station I suggest that you visit that if you are feeling poorly I will accompany you if you require me to <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>No no that is very kind of you but I am feeling much better now <\/i><\/p>\n<p>The man patted Robert on the back and smiled<\/p>\n<p><i>Have a great Christmas then pal <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>I will thank you again <\/i><\/p>\n<p>Robert stood in the subway for over an hour watching the shimmering colour fields moving without effort<\/p>\n<p>He was looking for Anderson<\/p>\n<p>A policeman approached him<\/p>\n<p><i>My colleagues and I have been watching you on CCTV sir <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>I am sorry to warrant your attention as I did not mean to spend such a long time in this beautiful subway<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>You have only been here for a matter of minute\u2019s sir<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>They why am I of interest to you constable?<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Because you dropped your wallet as you entered the subway and after formalities I will be happy to return your property to you <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>What is your name sir?
