The watery boards revealed<\/p>\n
But we were told to ignore<\/p>\n
These dull and frigid signs<\/p>\n
For this was the home<\/p>\n
Of the Mermaids of Kent<\/p>\n
Who were shy beyond belief<\/p>\n
Which I must confess<\/p>\n
To my friends and I<\/p>\n
Was something of a relief<\/p>\n
But what of the munitions <\/i><\/p>\n
The bullets and bombs <\/i><\/p>\n
The reminders of the war<\/i><\/p>\n
With only their heads above the waves<\/p>\n
The mermaids smiled<\/p>\n
The weapons were spared many years ago <\/i><\/p>\n
And given to passing fish <\/i><\/p>\n
Who distributed them so widely <\/i><\/p>\n
On the ocean floor <\/i><\/p>\n
That they can be quite easily missed <\/i><\/p>\n
For the rest of the day and into the night<\/p>\n
We partied sang and danced<\/p>\n
With these mermaids shy<\/p>\n
With these mermaids pure<\/p>\n
With these mermaids full of grace<\/p>\n
And wondered why the people<\/p>\n
Who lived on the nearby isle<\/p>\n
