This is not true<\/p>\n
You offer me your suspension, your gift you say<\/p>\n
It is worthless only a hangman would offer such a gift<\/p>\n
I know that if I accepted that you would take great delight in pulling the lever and would collect the witness of my eternity without thought<\/p>\n
I will not let you have this pleasure<\/p>\n
You have left me on this dusty road warning me that the first vehicle that passes will crush my fragile body<\/p>\n
You would not let that happen as the ink of my pen would also be crushed and you would drown as quickly as I was destroyed<\/p>\n
You cradle me and have told me that you have burnt our strings of attachment<\/p>\n
I do not believe you<\/p>\n
You say that you feel the beauty that impacts your eye<\/p>\n
That is a lie<\/p>\n
You only see this beauty<\/p>\n
You do not feel it as I do<\/p>\n
That is your jealousy<\/p>\n
You could destroy me without thought but you will not<\/p>\n
The flames are false<\/p>\n
They do not fool me<\/p>\n
They only warm us both as night closes<\/p>\n
You promise me the history dust as we look at the stars which appear like prisoners in the sky<\/p>\n
You describe their freedom and my imprisonment<\/p>\n
I suffer no imprisonment<\/p>\n
You are the confined one<\/p>\n
Leave now, I will be here when you return.<\/p>\n
You will not travel far<\/p>\n
An empty engine craves fuel<\/p>\n
And you have none<\/p>\n
You may shine and collect many in your reflection but you are as empty as I am motionless<\/p>\n
Let us both stay here<\/p>\n
On the opposite sides of this road<\/p>\n
And watch each other<\/p>\n
With increasing suspicion<\/p>\n
As you age and I grow more derelict<\/p>\n
In time we will both return to dust and what will it matter to anybody that only the freedom birds would have nested with our neglected strings<\/p>\n
