When I was a child there was a railway station at Grove Ferry<\/p>\n
I often caught trains to other parts of Kent from its lonely platforms<\/p>\n
A ferry crossed the river at the time<\/p>\n
As the bridge had not been built<\/p>\n
And I used to watch as cars and vans were transported slowly across the Stour<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Today from my window I can see the bridge that replaced the ferry<\/p>\n
There is more traffic and the peace of my childhood is no more<\/p>\n
Cars vans and many lorries travel over the relaxed spans of the bridge<\/p>\n
As the quiet river flows beneath<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Trains to and from Canterbury pass in timed procession<\/p>\n
But none stop at the ghost station on the opposite bank<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
You are sitting at my desk with the summer sun<\/p>\n
Streaming through your golden hair<\/p>\n
I run my fingers through your mane<\/p>\n
You smile but do not speak<\/p>\n
For you are writing a history<\/p>\n
Of the Kent cornfields<\/p>\n
With my electric pen<\/p>\n
