An Artist in his Residence <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As I spend a great deal <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In my Southern Studio <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The light is so rich <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Here in Southern France <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rather like you <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I have a very flexible arrangement <\/p>\n\n\n\n
With Stevie and her four sisters <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And it makes me very happy <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I sometimes wake up <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In my room with the sun streaming<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And know that I am a content man<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I am satisfied with my life <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In view of this I starting a portrait <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Which is quite rare for me <\/p>\n\n\n\n
They do fetch such high values <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But this portrait is different<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As its subject is a unfortunate girl from Alsace<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Who was born without proper arms <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And to make things worse has lost her sight <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And she is not even twenty five years of age <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I hope and it is hoped that she might go to the US <\/p>\n\n\n\n
So that she may be treated for her loss of sight <\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are some wonderful people out there <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This will cost a fucking fortune if you get my drift <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nobody knows about this and I want it to stay that way <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And believe it or not I feel good about myself <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Even the locals think that I am a typical artist <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Colourful paintings naked girls joie de vivre<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I was just a lucky man <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Who was in the right place <\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the right time <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Most of my paintings are colourful <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And this caresses the eye and so on <\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are many artists unknown <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Who are far more talented that I am <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I am a product that it all <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But it pays well very well <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I like to think I am liked by the locals <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I do not buy their affections <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But I contribute <\/p>\n\n\n\n
That is all <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sometimes journalists show up <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Expecting to find an Artistic Babylon<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But they leave disappointed <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As my life resembles that of the artist <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Portrayed in La Belle Noiseuse<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Although free it has a heartbeat <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Every family has a heartbeat <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is so ordinary that my birthday was missed <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was forgotten <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And then I found a beautiful <\/p>\n\n\n\n
China Doll <\/p>\n\n\n\n
On my table <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She is exquisite <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I am in love with her already <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As you know I collect dolls <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I have since I was a child <\/p>\n\n\n\n
They just please me <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Stevie and her sisters <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Normally name my dolls <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But I have decided to name this doll <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today she is Christine <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yesterday she was Sissy <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tomorrow she will be Eva <\/p>\n\n\n\n
By the end of the year <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She will have 365 names <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And I will not stop there <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As you might have guessed <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is an art installation <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I am doing this to make people think <\/p>\n\n\n\n
About their identify and who they are <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As I do not really know who I am <\/p>\n\n\n\n
You do not really know who you are <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nobody fucking knows <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Look after yourself Joe <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And yes I read all your poems <\/p>\n\n\n\n
They just blow me away <\/p>\n\n\n\n
If you were an artist <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Well you know what I am going to say <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I will visit you and your haunting sister <\/p>\n\n\n\n
When I am next in London <\/p>\n\n\n\n
You know where I love and live my friend
