My father is a famous writer <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He belonged to what was termed <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Kitchen Sink School <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I have always admired his work<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Like many he came to London <\/p>\n\n\n\n
From a decaying northern city <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And exchanged his vacancy <\/p>\n\n\n\n
For another vacancy <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This was long before I was born <\/p>\n\n\n\n
We watched a newsreel recently <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Which dealt with a series of horrific murders <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the Hammersmith area in the sixties <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was filmed in black and white <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Which added to greyness of the era <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And clearly showed those without hope <\/p>\n\n\n\n
People who had gravitated towards London <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In hope of bettering themselves but failed<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This was one of the reasons my parents moved south<\/p>\n\n\n\n
My father was and still is very talented <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And this enabled him to swim above the gutter <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But not everyone was as lucky <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Many ended up on the streets or in festering sores <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Provincial girls ended up in dirty rooms <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Just to make ends meet and put food on the table<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Family men became their clients <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Before drowning in bottles or choking on fags <\/p>\n\n\n\n
There was no colour everything was bleak <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Even now my father has a dislike of homosexuals and blacks <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This hatred had its roots in these years <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As he was very aware of the toxic mix <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I share his views although I have not really experienced them <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sad girls do not walk the streets and young boys are no longer targeted <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Things are said to have improved and technically they probably have <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Life is easier as there is more choice but the toxic underbelly still exists <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In certain ways I have been more successful than my father <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Although I do not accept this as our pens are totally different<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Anni and I live in a degree of comfort in rural Oxfordshire <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not far from where my parents still live <\/p>\n\n\n\n
We have kept our heads above water <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I am writing a book about the second civil war <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Which I believe is not far away as the country is very angry <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Although this has always been a million miles away from my farm <\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are no blacks to speak of and homosexuals and other perverts <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Are so well hidden as to be almost invisible to decent people <\/p>\n\n\n\n
My book is to be called Death List and is a fictional account <\/p>\n\n\n\n
About the trial and execution of those considered traitors<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From the Prime Minister downwards <\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are no heroes in my new book <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Just honest and decent men who just have had enough <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In my father’s books his heroes are the Terry’s and Rodger’s <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Who rebel against the system but are slowly crushed <\/p>\n\n\n\n
That is why my books are so different from my father’s work <\/p>\n\n\n\n
