Some days ago I found a book on butterflies casually abandoned by the roadside<\/p>\n
The book showed no outward signs of damage although the cover was much faded<\/p>\n
Even the unidentified white butterfly seemed tired<\/p>\n
I opened the book and discovered that it had once belonged to a<\/p>\n
K Surrey
\n35 Primrose Way
\nAlperton
\nWembley
\nMiddlesex \u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n
The inscription was written in pencil and was hard to age<\/p>\n
But it seemed years old<\/p>\n
I knew this area well in my younger days<\/p>\n
And although it is now much changed<\/p>\n
I still harbour an affection for its avenues and ways<\/p>\n
As they were always kind to butterflies<\/p>\n
No matter their colour or shade<\/p>\n
During the summer months these elegant creatures<\/p>\n
Came in droves to share the happiness<\/p>\n
Of those long forgotten Alperton streets<\/p>\n
And writers such as the Reverend Wood<\/p>\n
Recorded their visits for posterity<\/p>\n
