The heat and a series of late nights had made her drowsy <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And she suddenly tripped and fell violently to the ground <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The fall caused her to become disorientated for a moment <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As she gained her senses she became aware of a tall man <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The tall man asked her in English if she had suffered any injury <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Apart from her bloodied knee and grazed palms <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He gently helped her to her feet <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She answered him in English <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Which she had learned when at university <\/p>\n\n\n\n
They sat on a nearby bench while she recovered <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Vera Kowalewska was a native of the capital city <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And lived with her paternal aunt in a riverside apartment <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She was known by all as Little Vera<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Due to her height and sparrow like appearance <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Stephen bathed her injured knee with water <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And bandaged it with one of his mothers handkerchiefs<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At first she did not speak as she was very embarrassed<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The name of our once beautiful city stems<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From a 13th-century legend <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Of a fisherman named Wars and his wife, Sawa<\/p>\n\n\n\n
