I visited a castle recently <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the South of England <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Whilst there I purchased a book <\/p>\n\n\n\n
From a dusty room near a terrace <\/p>\n\n\n\n
That overlooked the sea <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Collected Poems Volume II <\/p>\n\n\n\n
1917 – 1922 <\/p>\n\n\n\n
John Drinkwater <\/p>\n\n\n\n
There was a dedication inside<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not from the poet <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But from Eva to Harold <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Xmas 1923<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This book I was told <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Had arrived in the summer of 2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Or was it 2024 <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Where had it been since 1923\/2023<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This was a vacant enquiry <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Idiotic to the extreme <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Why research the obvious <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I said to myself as I paddled <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the chilly sea under a dust sky <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Alice was reading my book <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She had been born in Gloucestershire <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And had retained some of her accent <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Which I found very attractive <\/p>\n\n\n\n
We spent the night in a local hotel <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And caught an early less crowded train <\/p>\n\n\n\n
After a much admired breakfast in blue <\/p>\n\n\n\n
