What is he doing?<\/i><\/p>\n
He is drawing the shell fire away from our trenches <\/i><\/p>\n
So that we may regroup <\/i><\/p>\n
He is still a crazy fellow <\/i><\/p>\n
I think he likes the war <\/i><\/p>\n
He treats it as a kind of sport <\/i><\/p>\n
A shell landed near a stricken farm of fence<\/p>\n
For an instant the major\u2019s horse was blinded<\/p>\n
But it ran bravely through the acrid smoke<\/p>\n
And soon it was jumping the broken obstruction<\/p>\n
His father was just as mad <\/i><\/p>\n
Served during the African wars <\/i><\/p>\n
Still riding even with a spear wound in his side <\/i><\/p>\n
Too old for this war otherwise he would have been out there with his son <\/i><\/p>\n
That is what distinguishes this country above all others<\/i><\/p>\n
The Major let his horse trot calmly through No Man\u2019s Land<\/p>\n
He was looking for Andromeda<\/p>\n
