My pen friend was fatter<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Than I had imagined her <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This said she was very attractive <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I rang my mother and told her <\/p>\n\n\n\n
That I had arrived without harm <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Even though the flight had been tedious <\/p>\n\n\n\n
My painting was in a position of honour <\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the wall facing the wide windows<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I had painted a nude study of Christina <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Using only blue grey and white<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In short this was the reason I was here <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As I was running away from my own reality <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But there she was on the wall of Ines apartment <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Staring critically over me as she usually did <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ines had contacted me after buying my painting <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She asked if she might be my pen friend <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I agreed as we were continents and time zones apart <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A week or so later she sent me a photograph of her painting <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In certain ways it hinted at my rough brush style <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a catchy title I have to admit that <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But even by using my blues and greys it went nowhere <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The following day we sketched in some of the public parks <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ines was far better with a pencil than a brush <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As it slowed her eye and gave her time to think <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Buenos Aires was a great distance from Tierra del Fuego <\/p>\n\n\n\n
About nineteen hundred miles to the north <\/p>\n\n\n\n
My friend had been born in Ushuaia where her family still lived <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And we were travelling there on the following Saturday <\/p>\n\n\n\n
