{"id":3402,"date":"2017-05-20T09:51:23","date_gmt":"2017-05-20T09:51:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.stuartmillerosborne.co.uk\/?p=3402"},"modified":"2017-05-24T14:42:12","modified_gmt":"2017-05-24T14:42:12","slug":"victory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/2017\/05\/20\/victory\/","title":{"rendered":"Victory"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I sketched for a minute and drew a hunched figure in a cloak<\/p>\n<p>The figure was looking into a valley<\/p>\n<p>The title of this sketch was Victory<\/p>\n<p><i>Have you written any further poems?<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Yes<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>There is only one <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>May I see it?<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>It is a slightly mysterious and maybe nostalgic poem <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>But I do not think it is very good<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>I prefer my poem called Victory which accompanied the sketch <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Would you read your poem to me? <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Yes I will <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>What is it called?<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Ceremonies at Sea <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>During my years as a sailor <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>I never liked ceremonies at sea <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>As I found them foolish and trivial <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>But now that I have retired <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>I often sit in my sea house <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>And listen to the music of the waves <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>And find out that I was quite mistaken <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>I rather liked your poem <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>It is your choice but I have always found it rather lightweight and simple <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>I thought that the character resembled Captain Cat in Under Milk Wood and that is why I decided not to publish it <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>There are similarities but your character is totally different <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>If you say so <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Where did you set your poem?<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Where was the captain living in his retirement?<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>I never said that he was a captain <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>He might have just been a simple merchant seaman <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Now retired <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>And looking out to sea with a little nostalgia <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>\u00a0And that is the poems weakness <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>I think that is the poems strength <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>That is your opinion <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Your poem reminds me of my childhood <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>When I was a child my parents often took me to a small coastal village called Torcross in South Devon <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Have you heard of it?<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Yes it is near Dartmouth I believe <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>It was a dreamlike place in the summer although it was often damaged by storms in the winter <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>I used to sit there with my sister <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Creating sandcastles? <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>No it was mainly a stony beach <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>And we would both look out to sea and make up stories of daring and adventure <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>You poem reminded me of those days <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Were there any retired sea captains? <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Alas no <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>I did not see any retired sea captains or for that matter retired sailors <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Maybe they retired inland as they were tired of the sea <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Nobody can tire of the sea and that is why so many people write poems about it \u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I sketched for a minute and drew a hunched figure in a cloak The figure was looking into a valley The title of this sketch was Victory Have you written any further poems?
