I am reading a description of this church <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Written just under one hundred and fifty years ago
Has there been much change <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yes and no <\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the time of writing this church <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Was becoming too small for its congregation <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A new church was considered and was later built <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And to a great extent the smaller church was abandoned <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was I believe used for storage and other tasks <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wellingtons church was just left to its own fate
Was it ever used again<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Strangely enough yes <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But it took a war <\/p>\n\n\n\n
To enable this change <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new church was built in the 1880’s <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And proved to be a suitable replacement <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But it was very exposed as it was near to the sea <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And would have been the likely target<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For enemy bombers <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This was the reason that it was evacuated <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And the smaller church used
It was only used for the duration <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And when the war ended<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The bigger church was reopened <\/p>\n\n\n\n
What I find interesting is that Wellingtons church <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Had acted like a time capsule <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It had missed the restorations <\/p>\n\n\n\n
So common during Victorian times <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And had remained untouched <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since the day it closed its doors
What did you see during your visit <\/p>\n\n\n\n
That even in the last eighty or so years <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not much had changed if anything at all<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Even the gas brackets now disused <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Still hung from the wall <\/p>\n\n\n\n
If any changes had taken place <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then these had taken place during Wellingtons time<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I was probably walking in the dust of Victorian’s

It is between Deal and Dover <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a small town called Walmer <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Although it is known to some <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As Gentle Walmer<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Which I think is rather apt <\/p>\n\n\n\n
