Well apart from the weather which was very hot<\/i><\/p>\n
I remember the lane that led to the ancient church <\/i><\/p>\n
It was not much of a lane but it has remained in my memory ever since<\/i><\/p>\n
The church at the end of the lane had been restored in 1875 having been there since the late eleventh century <\/i><\/p>\n
I almost expected to meet the long forgotten craftsmen as Beatrice and I walked towards the church\u00a0 <\/i><\/p>\n
You mentioned that there was a cricket ground near the church
\n<\/i><\/p>\n
To the right of the church there was a cricket ground <\/i><\/p>\n
It was typically Kentish in appearance <\/i><\/p>\n
But we never saw a match <\/i><\/p>\n
Even though we were there for the two full weeks <\/i><\/p>\n
Not one ball was bowled<\/i><\/p>\n
We spend many languid hours stretched out in front of the cricket pavilion <\/i><\/p>\n
Or we played impromptu games of cricket with the other strawberry pickers who were camping with us in a nearby field <\/i><\/p>\n
Do you visit the lane often? <\/i><\/p>\n
Not as often as we would like <\/i><\/p>\n
But it does not change <\/i><\/p>\n
Small details may differ<\/i><\/p>\n
But overall it’s the same <\/i><\/p>\n
Kent is often called the Garden of England<\/i><\/p>\n
And once you visit its garden<\/i><\/p>\n
You never really leave <\/i><\/p>\n
