The mysterious cargo of the stricken Indian ship <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Was washed up on southern coasts for the next few years<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Its presence and its musical qualities were much valued <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I actually have a few examples in a glass jar on my desk <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The tar substitute is even with its shingle additions <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Is quite ordinary to the touch but that is where it ends<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As even after all these years a quiet hum can still be heard <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This hum however is accompanied by a long lost ghost <\/p>\n\n\n\n
An oriental girl of immature years so slight <\/p>\n\n\n\n
That you might consider that she is a child<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Until you witness her white face and jet eyes<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At present this ghost is trapped in my jar <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Which slowly illuminates<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During her rare visitations <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Her hums are distinct but very brief<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is fancifully supposed by some<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That she is the ghost of a stowaway<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Who drowned trapped in a morass of tar<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But this is one of many stories<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Others state that she floats above the sea <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I have not seen this although my house <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Overlooks the sea and the grave of the Indian ship<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Which was lost so many years ago<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
My fading fragments of tar do hum quietly <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And on certain dull days I am sure that <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I can see the ghost of girl drifting within my jar<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
